Academia

Dr. Paris was a professor at Stanford University and has held visiting professorships and residencies across the UK, Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, including at Oxford University, UK, Grenoble University in the Alps and Brunel University, London, where she wrote and directed the Master’s theatre and performance program. Teaching & Mentoring

Teaching and mentoring have been central to Helen’s work for more than three decades. Across creative writing, theatre, and writing for performance, she is committed to helping writers and artists develop their voice and deepen their practice. Her students have gone on to publish their work and build careers in theatre, creative writing, and academia.

Fiction and Theatre Books

  • “Helen’s guidance and influence has been vital for my work. I was seeking support and advice from people who had stayed in the performance sector so successfully, and I turned to Helen with her diverse performance, writing and academic practice. The mentoring so far has been vital: she has alerted me to new texts, thinkers and ways of considering diverse possible outcomes for my project, and she has also been enormously generous and supportive in guiding me as I figure out how to make this a sustainable long-term career”

  • "Helen taught me self-confidence in my body of work, in my labour of love and in my artistic freedom. Helen is a playful yet focused teacher, and her vital empathy in class prompted me to continue my writing with joy."

  • “Helen’s classes are so thoughtfully created. She has the brilliant ability to craft sessions with a narrative arc themselves, sessions that lead participants through a journey of self-discovery. You will end up with a raft of pages and a renewed purpose as a writer.”
