About this course
How do we begin?
Sometimes what stops us from writing is not knowing where — or how — to start.
This course is for writers who want structure, creative momentum and a supportive space in which to begin making work.
Over six weeks, you will explore practical, playful and generative ways into fiction. Each session combines guided writing prompts, discussion, and tutor-led support so that you can build confidence, develop material and better understand your own creative process.
You’ll work with a variety of dynamic creative prompts, such as place, persona, autobiography, memory, the body, objects, music and the senses, and receive tutor and peer feedback. There will be some creative assignments outside class.
You will leave the course with…
a body of new writing and creative material that might become the foundation chapters of a novel or a portfolio of work to take forward
a range of generative and enjoyable tools to help you kick-start your writing independently
a deeper sense of creative and authorial confidence
a clearer awareness of your creative process: how you write, when you start to flow, what blocks you and how to navigate it
structured tutor and peer feedback on your writing
connections to a creative cohort
