About this course
Are you a live artist, performer or theatre maker looking for support to make and develop a solo performance?
Would you like creative techniques for generating, shaping and producing original work? Do you want professional feedback on work in progress?
Would you benefit from creative and practical help as you prepare your one-person show for performance?
This six‑week individually tailored course will help you hone your solo voice as a performer. With exercises and prompts to help you generate original material.
Drawing on my book Devising Theatre and Performance (University of Chicago Press, 2021), I will create a bespoke programme of exercises and prompts to help you generate original material. Together we will work with text, the body, the senses, objects, persona, activism, site, memory and other sources for performance-making.
You will have the opportunity to focus on and hone your creative talents in writing, devising, composing, producing and creating new work.
You will develop creative and critical tools to connect the personal with the political and see the solo voice as a powerful and potent form of artistic expression.
You will learn how to draw from the specificity of your own embodied experience.
Together, we will also look at next steps, such as funding opportunities, networking and presenting your work.
By the end of the course you will have…
gathered a range of material from which to shape an original performance
experienced ways of working with a range of creative prompts
learned techniques for discovering and honing your solo voice as a performer
explored new ways of using the senses, site, persona, objects and voice
received individual bespoke tutor guidance, feedback and support

Six 90 minute Zoom sessions plus

After booking we will decide together on a work program that fits your particular requirements. Classes will include creative workshops, brainstorming, feedback to work in progress.
